Perimenopause & Menopause Psychiatrist Serving the San Francisco Bay Area
Alexis Anderson, DO, provides concierge telepsychiatry for women throughout the San Francisco Bay Area navigating depression, anxiety, sleep disruption, ADHD symptoms, brain fog, and other emotional or cognitive changes during perimenopause and menopause.
Her practice integrates psychotherapy, thoughtful psychiatric prescribing, lifestyle strategies, and hormone-informed care within one ongoing physician relationship. Every appointment includes psychotherapy. The practice does not provide medication-only visits or one-time psychiatric consultations.
One Physician for Psychotherapy and Psychiatric Care
Many women receive fragmented care: one clinician for psychotherapy, another for psychiatric medication, and another for questions involving hormones or midlife health. Important connections can be lost when each part of a woman’s experience is considered separately.
My practice offers a different model. Psychotherapy and psychiatric treatment are provided within one continuous relationship, with time to understand your biology, personal history, relationships, responsibilities, and present circumstances.
Appointments are 50 minutes and may incorporate:
Comprehensive psychiatric assessment
Psychodynamic psychotherapy
Cognitive behavioral therapy
Thoughtful psychiatric medication management
Evaluation of sleep, stress, lifestyle, and reproductive stage
Individualized lifestyle strategies
Consideration of supplements when clinically appropriate
Coordination with your OB/GYN, primary-care physician, or menopause specialist
Treatment is individualized. Medication may be part of care when appropriate, but it is not offered as an isolated service.
Psychiatric Care During Perimenopause and Menopause
Perimenopause and menopause can coincide with changes in mood, sleep, anxiety, attention, memory, and stress tolerance. Some women experience new concerns, while others notice the recurrence or worsening of a condition that was previously manageable.
I work with women experiencing concerns such as:
Depression or loss of interest and motivation
Anxiety, overwhelm, or panic
Irritability and mood instability
Insomnia and disrupted sleep
Brain fog and cognitive concerns
Changes in attention or ADHD symptoms
Recurrence of previous psychiatric symptoms
Perfectionism, shame, and difficulty adjusting to changes in identity
The combined demands of career, parenting, caregiving, relationships, and midlife transition
Not every symptom during perimenopause is caused by hormones. A careful psychiatric assessment considers reproductive stage alongside psychiatric history, medical conditions, medications, sleep, relationships, lifestyle, and current stress.
Hormone-Informed Psychiatry
Hormone-informed psychiatry recognizes that reproductive transitions may influence mental health without assuming hormones are the only explanation.
I prescribe and manage psychiatric medications when clinically appropriate. I do not prescribe menopause hormone therapy directly. When hormone treatment is part of a patient’s care, I can collaborate with her OB/GYN or menopause clinician so psychiatric and hormonal decisions are considered together.
This coordination allows each clinician to remain within her area of expertise while supporting a more connected understanding of the patient’s care.
Concierge Psychiatry for Women in Midlife
By intentionally limiting the size of my practice, I am able to provide the time and continuity that meaningful psychiatric work requires.
The concierge model includes:
Fifty-minute appointments
Psychotherapy during every appointment
Continuity with one physician
Flexible scheduling
Direct physician communication between appointments when needed
Ongoing attention to psychiatric, psychological, hormonal, and lifestyle factors
Care is provided through a monthly concierge fee rather than a traditional fee-for-service model. The practice is not contracted with insurance plans. Patients may request documentation to submit for possible out-of-network reimbursement, depending on their individual insurance benefits.
